A Wintry Wildcamp

A Wintry Wildcamp

I had been itching to get back out into the hills and do a winter wildcamp but the weather over the last two months has been pretty dire , however I had the Monday off work so decided that Sunday night would be the night for a camp.
With that and having my gear all ready packed I set off for my parking location at Cuddys Hall about 22 mile from home.
On arrival it was overcast but dry and it wasn't long before I was on the trail and heading to my camp location of Christianbury Crags

It was a very windy day in fact it was the tail end of storm Jorge but it was dry which was the main thing , I soon arrived at Blacklyne House I always stop here and check and see that know one has got in and vandalised it.

Having had a little skoot around the building all was good so I carried on with my hike up to the crags. The weather was opening up a little with hints of blue sky appearing now and again , I was now well about a 1000 feet in elevation and patches of snow were appearing on the ground.
Leaving the comfort of the track I now traversed through the forest to reach Christianbury Crags in around two hours after leaving the car.
It was blowing a hooley as they say on the summit of this outcrop of rocks situated on the Cumbria/Northumbria border but I found a sheltered spot beside a large boulder to pitch for my overnight stay.

Tent erected and all my gear now placed in the tent I set about making myself a brew and a hot meal before bedding down for a cold and blustery night in my Hilleberg Akto at around 1500 feet above sea level. It was a wild night windy with wintry showers but I eventually fell asleep (ear plugs in) I awoke a few times during the night but managed to sleep till around 0630 when I opened the tent door to find it had snowed overnight .

First order of the day was to get a brew on and something to eat , it was extremely tough to leave the confines of a warm sleeping bag and pack all my gear away with cold hands . But it wasn't long before I was all packed away leaving no trace well apart from a clear patch were my tent was .
So another successful wildcamp in wintry conditions but now time to head down to the car and back home.

Check out the Vlog down below .
